Crossing

Crossing reduces the familiar figure of horse and rider to a dark, roughly worked silhouette.

The pair sits low within the composition, surrounded by broad fields of muted olive and sun-baked terracotta. Loose marks, uneven edges and traces of surface texture keep the image deliberately unresolved, while the near-black figure gives the otherwise open composition its weight. Western imagery is present, but stripped of detail and treated through an abstract, contemporary language.
